New Oil Spill Clean-Up System To Debut July 29th
TIRED OF GETTING HOSED: OIL SPILL RECOVERY SPECIALIST PATENTS PRODUCT THAT CUTS CLEAN-UP IN HALF
Prototype to Debut July 29th in San Antonio at 2015 South Texas Oilfield Expo
LONGVIEW, TX-July 23rd, 2015-Sometimes, a little fresh perspective makes a big change.
Sometimes that perspective results from spending 18 hours bent over an oil spill with a two-inch hose slung over your back.
Les Perry built houses for years before moving to Oklahoma and entering the oil and gas industry. And the first job he had was on the end of a clean-up hose, where he immediately thought there had to be a better way.
“I questioned a lot of people as to whether there was an easier and faster way to dispose of the mess. I heard the same answer over and over: this is the way it’s always been done. I knew if a change was to be made, I had to make it.”
The Crud Sucker was born.
Perry’s prototype allows clean-up specialists to stand straight-up, while letting two skids on the bottom of the apparatus do the work of separating rocks from reclaimable oil. And it’s estimated to cut clean-up time and expense in half. The product will launch at the 2015 South Texas Oilfield Expo.
“When I brought the prototype out to see if it worked, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) man overseeing the clean-up said that I had better hide it until I got a patent on it,” Perry said. Since then, he says the OCC has expressed interest in adopting the product for further clean-up in oil spills around the country.
The newly patented design works in water as well, where recovery projects can be trickier and involve up to four to five workers. The Crud Sucker requires two. Perry said that he’s looking at adding a soap feature to a future prototype, specialized for oil spills in water.
